Tottenham Manager Frank Labels Goalkeeper Booers 'Not True Real Supporters'
The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Raise Tension on Frank
Tottenham Hotspur supporters who jeered keeper Vicario were informed later "those individuals can't be true Tottenham fans" by manager Frank.
Spurs conceded two goals in the first six minutes to fall 2-1 to their opponents, marking their tenth top-flight at home defeat of the year.
But the main topic of discussion was the visitors' next score when the keeper lost possession well outside his box.
The goalkeeper ventured out to handle a high pass and took the ball near the sideline.
However, rather than kicking it into touch, the Italian spun and tried to clear away, but slipped as the ball skimmed off Harry Wilson and was collected by King.
The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the touchline recorded at 36.6 yards.
Seconds later when the ball came to Vicario again, some Spurs supporters jeered him.
The team were jeered off at the interval, with the club 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.
A particular of those booing sessions truly irritated the manager.
"I heard a few of our supporters reportedly jeered the incident and jeered following, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Danish manager stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.
"[They] can't be true Spurs fans that act that way. Alright booing following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are supporting each other, we are with one another going forward."
Kenny Tete had given the visitors a early advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second-half showing.
Ex- top-flight keeper Joe Hart stated that the second score was "totally avoidable".
"I do appreciate the supporters' frustration," the ex-keeper added. "I am aware the part the keeper is performing. He is a great squad member, he is a true leader in the locker room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your actions.
"The keeper was heavily implicated in what turned out to be the decisive goal."
'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'
Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game
Italian national team the keeper is in his third campaign with Spurs.
He said after the game that he had to accept the criticism.
"The second goal was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for it," he said.
"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a bad way. That made an even bigger mountain to climb."
He said receiving jeers "comes with football".
"I'm a big man, how can I respond?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the situation in the crowd. The fans have the entitlement to do as they see fit.
"It is on us to stay increasingly calm, to focus on ourselves. We are missing in composure and calmness to reverse results. This match is a bad defeat and it's hard to accept."
'It Shocked Me Nobody Returned to the Line'
In spite of the keeper's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.
In fact it was the second longest-range top division score of the season – after Tyler Adams' forty-three point three yard goal for the Cherries against Sunderland, which incidentally too occurred on Saturday.
The goalscorer said he was "a little bit surprised" that he still had an empty goal to target.
10 seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his box and Wilson striking – which was five moments after the kick.
"It seemed to me like the keeper was out of the area for ages," Wilson remarked.
"I was surprised none of the defenders went back to the goal line. When not one of them defended the net, my interest sparked a bit.
"[Destiny] Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little extra opportunity. After that it was all about trying to achieve the correct connection and place it on target. I had a good sense, the moment it left my foot, that it was heading in."
'During in a Poor Run, All Seems to Go Against You'
Booing While We Are Still Playing Is Totally Unacceptable - Frank
Although the keeper's error dominated headlines, this was an overall bad day for Tottenham to continue their home ground struggles.
This was their 10th home defeat of the year in the Premier League, a joint team record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.
They still have home games against the manager's old side Brentford and champions the Reds to play prior to the close of the year.
Just a single of those victories have come after the manager took over from his predecessor in the off-season.
"If you are down 2-0 after six minutes, there is a huge challenge to overcome," stated the boss.
"When you're in a poor run, everything appears to go against you as well – the first was a deflected shot, the second is a mistake from the keeper.
"The outcome leaves us in a place where we have lost an additional game. Each fixture has a unique story, today we lost in the first six minutes.
"We just need to keep working. The later period was significantly improved and with luck something we can use to learn."
Spurs have been defeated in 4 consecutive home capital clashes for the first time in the Premier League.
Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and three point two efforts on goal per match in the division – their poorest rates on file in a one campaign (since at least the 2003-04 season).
Former Fulham midfield player Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to endure the criticism.
"He must take the criticism," Murphy said. "He has accepted a prestigious job at a major team with massive expectation. There is scrutiny and responsibility that accompanies that.
"Their showings at home have been disappointing and they have to get better {quickly|
