The teenager has featured in seven games for Real Madrid, featuring five appearances in the starting lineup.

When an teenage creates Real Madrid a historic moment in a pivotal European tie against City, it naturally attracts acclaim and attention.

During his maiden start in the competition - and fifth game for the club - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the 15-time Champions League winners claimed a 3-0 round of 16 first leg advantage at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The teenager, who also made his club debut in the play-off round a few weeks prior with a substitute appearance at Sporting Lisbon, then assisted Los Blancos overcome the English champions in the midweek second leg to confirm a quarter-final place.

At 18 years and 226 days, the midfielder became the team's youngest player to start twice in the Champions League's latter rounds, surpassing star Vinicius Jr's record by a week and a half.

A Meteoric Rise Through The Academy

This talent is the most recent to emerge from the club's academy and is rapidly cementing himself as one of Alvaro Arbeloa's most exciting young players.

He signed for Madrid from Leganes in 2023, having previously been with Atletico Madrid and Getafe's youth teams, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he quickly made a strong impression.

He progressed to the reserve side and it was during a friendly match in which they faced the academy's first team, then coached by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have drawn the eye of the present manager, who took over from Xabi Alonso in the new year.

Reports would later label the moment as "love at first sight," adding he excelled not only for his technical ability, but for the energy, personality and determination he added to the side.

'His Best Attribute Remains His Personality'

In the pre-season of 2025, ex-manager Xabi Alonso invited the youngster to practice with the first team and awarded him minutes in the warm-up matches.

Yet, it was the change in manager that became the defining moment in his career as he was introduced as a second-half replacement in each leg against the Portuguese side that set up the meeting with Manchester City.

"I've dreamed of this every night when sleeping, the first day I started playing football, every day you head to training and every day you have a game," said Pitarch after his first appearance.

"I've just fulfilled my dream with the greatest club in the planet and in the top tournament."

Given a starting debut in the Spanish league against Getafe - where he spent four years after moving from Atleti in 2018 - he has retained his place for the next four as fitness issues to Bellingham and Dani Ceballos created an opening.

Pitarch has seized it with displays that have belied his youth and experience.

"He's a very quick footballer, and you can observe his capabilities," said Arbeloa. "He is extremely energetic, with excellent endurance, work-rate and mobility."

The player's mindset has also stood out to his coach.

"His standout trait is his character," continued he. "He always wants the possession, and even under pressure, he remains unfazed.

"I understand fans might be surprised to see him start in a European fixture, but he is selected because I had complete confidence in him to do what he usually does.

"Thiago will continue to get opportunities with the main squad. It is delightful to have a player like him."

A Future International Decision

Pitarch was born in Fuenlabrada, in the Spanish capital's community, and grew up deeply involved in Spanish football, moving through local academies before joining Real Madrid's renowned La Fabrica system.

He possesses both Moroccan and Spanish citizenship, offering him the option to represent both nations at senior international level.

According to Fifa eligibility rules, footballers may represent different countries at junior level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only binding once they appear in a competitive senior international match.

He has featured for Spain at youth level, representing both the U19 and U20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Youth World Cup, where Spain reached the last eight.

Despite this, he has yet to commit to any senior national team, who are monitoring his progress with interest.

In a recent interview, the player confirmed: "I have not taken my ultimate choice yet. My situation is great with Spain, but I will reach a decision in the near future."

This scenario mirrors that of other bi-national players such as Real team-mate Brahim Diaz and Barcelona forward Yamal. While teenage Yamal chose La Roja, Brahim opted to represent the Atlas Lions.

Eyes on the Prize

For now, Pitarch's focus is on making his mark in the Madrid lineup and repaying his manager's belief.

He played 74 minutes in the two-one win at the Etihad, which sealed a five-one overall triumph and a quarter-final tie with the German champions.

His substitution by fellow youth graduate in Manuel Angel to emphasise the coach's confidence in younger players to help the club pursue trophies to come.

After his notable contributions to date on European football's biggest stage, the midfielder is tipped to be a central figure in that.

"The manager handles me the identical way. We handle it very normally. I attempt not to think about it excessively - I have to earn my playing time on the pitch," he commented following the success at Manchester.
