The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Regarding AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features a few notable changes:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions done by human gamers grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Features like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist delivers on its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. In other words, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.

Community Reactions: From Fury to Support

"People want real players. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," comments a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are going with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

However, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," adds another. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Input

All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove XP farming from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, should analytics indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
