President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Injured National Guard Members to White House
President Trump announced on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the family of a National Guard member killed last week to attend the White House.
He added that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Event
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” Trump informed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to support law enforcement in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that instructors hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her previous school, stated to the media. “She was caring, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Service plans for Sarah are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Steps and Policy Adjustments
Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of murder and charges of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the administration to pause refugee claims and temporarily stop granting visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in early 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey said on television.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, according to the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had courage,” the governor told the crowd at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
