Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for Germany. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. She has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
