Accused Stalker Inquired: 'But What If I Am Madeleine?'
A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann apparently left her a recorded message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently declared she was the disappeared Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February the current year.
On Monday, the tribunal learned call records and information retrieved from phones logged Ms Wandelt consistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a genetic test throughout 2023 and 2024.
Madeleine's vanishing in 2007 - when she was three years old during a vacation in Portugal - is among the most covered investigations and continues to be unsolved.
'I Don't Want Money'
A separate voicemail, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm heavy and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I believe."
While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone expressed: "Imagine there is a small chance that I'm her? What happens next? Is that not crucial for you?"
"I am not seeking money, I have a living here in Poland, I simply desire to know," the recording stated.
The jury was advised that via emails, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a biological test, sent childhood photos to her phone in a bid to demonstrate a likeness to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "flashbacks" from a youth with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, a data specialist with law enforcement who collated the evidence, informed the court there "didn't appear to be any answers" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On that date, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."
That day Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I won't give up and I plan to establish my point."
The court learned Mrs Spragg struck up a connection through digital means with Ms Wandelt preceding accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' property in Leicestershire in that winter.
Communication data revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated using messaging service to Mrs McCann to say the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she ought to be considered genuine in the period leading up to the appearance to the village, the county, in December 2024.
The court heard communications between the two individuals, in November 2024, considering endeavoring to get Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.
"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg advised Ms Wandelt.
On the night of the trip to their house, Mrs Spragg sent a text which stated: "We're currently positioned adjacent to the McCanns' home with our vehicle dark resembling investigators. I had hoped to accomplish this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
